The air was thick with the scent of slow-smoked brisket, ribs, and all things barbecue as Smokin’ on the Rio took over the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Showgrounds in Mercedes, Texas on February 7th & 8th! This annual BBQ cook-off brought together pitmasters from across Texas to battle it out for the title of best BBQ in the Rio Grande Valley—and, of course, to serve up mouthwatering flavors for thousands of hungry attendees.

Barbecue lovers from all over the Rio Grande Valley and beyond came together for a weekend filled with top-tier BBQ, live music, and family fun. Competitors fired up their pits, showcasing their skills in categories like brisket, ribs, chicken, and specialty meats. Whether you were tasting competition-worthy plates or just soaking in the festive atmosphere, Smokin’ on the Rio 2025 did not disappoint!
